Are You a Perfectionist?
Perfectionism stops you from taking action but what people have to understand is that if you are a perfectionist, there is nothing wrong with you. Perfectionism is just a mindset and you can work towards changing your mindset.
People often think that they have to be, look or act perfect before they can take any real action. Often for fear of embarrassment if they do something wrong and everything isn’t “perfect”, which of course, doesn’t exist.
Perfectionism comes from wanting to avoid shame and embarrassment.
Perfectionists are so scared that they won’t be good enough or will embarrass themselves so they just stop taking any action. By withholding the effort, they can blame their lack of effort instead of intelligence, talent or abilities.
Dealing with Overwhelm
As an entrepreneur it’s really easy to feel overwhelmed. We’re required to wear so many hats and fulfil so many roles and if you’re a perfectionist, all those jobs can seem a lot bigger than they actually have to be.
That’s when we fall into overwhelm and think “stuff it”, it’s just too hard. To get past this I get my clients to set goals and reverse engineer them.
How To Reverse Engineer Your Goals
What is your goal?
Your goals is where you want to be. What you want to achieve. It’s where you would consider your goal achieved. If you set a goal to start a business, this would be when you’ve started your business and money is coming in.
What is your starting point?
This is where you are at right now. This is where you currently are in time, maybe you’re at the start line or maybe you’ve put a few things in place to start a business, like getting a business name and decided on your branding colours.
What is your method?
This is the journey you are taking to realise your goal. The steps you’re taking to change your life, achieve your goals or start your business.
Define your milestones
Milestones are little markers along your journey that remind you of how far you’ve come. They are almost like mini goals where you can celebrate and reflect on what’s going well and what’s not going well. If you want to start a business and you get your very first client or make a your first sale, this might be considered a milestone.
