Be Your Own Guru + Using Astrology to EXPLODE Business Success With Jaz Borri

In the realm of entrepreneurship, the search for success often leads us down the path of emulation, attempting to replicate the strategies and systems of others. However, this approach can be completely unsustainable and detrimental to our well-being.

So, what if there was a way to achieve success by honouring our unique selves and embracing our individual rhythms?

In our podcast discussion, Jaz and I covered lots of topics, but the essential theme that emerged was about becoming your own guru — a lesson learned by Jaz after 15 impressive years in entrepreneurship.

This goes beyond simple business strategies or daily routines

It's about your mission, your purpose, and the larger contributions you are making.

Jaz's Journey in Entrepreneurship

Jaz began her entrepreneurial journey in the music industry. During that time, she learned that independent artists are entrepreneurs, even though they might not traditionally identify as such. Looking back, she can clearly see the entrepreneurial elements in her own musical career - from the grit and determination required to persist to the strategic decisions involved in navigating the industry.

Reflecting on her early years, she fondly remembered booking her first gig when she was just five years old. This was the beginning of her lifelong drive, fueling her passion for pursuing a career in music. Her early days involved writing songs, booking gigs, and even forming a band with her brother. Her music career is still an ongoing endeavour, with an upcoming EP around the corner.

Challenges and Transformations

However, as with any entrepreneurial journey, there were obstacles and difficult moments. Jaz noticed a lack of fulfilment as her music career began to take off. It was not about a lack of success but rather a feeling that something was missing in her journey.

To financially support her musical endeavours, Jaz needed to find additional work. She dabbled in different fields, working in bars and even stepping into a sales role as part of a pyramid scheme for a brief period. Her experiences in these roles further amplified her desire for change. The long hours and challenging conditions led her to realize she needed a shift in her career trajectory.

A Pivot to Sales and Upselling

Jaz's career underwent a major shift when she dipped her toes into the realm of sales. It started as a seemingly random and almost mysterious job, selling products that she didn't fully understand. Yet, she was successful and managed to make plenty of sales.

Her knack for sales did not go unnoticed. A family member, who was involved in the automotive industry, suggested she try her hand at selling in the sector. This advice led her to an opportunity with Mercedes-Benz, which proved to be a pivotal turning point in her journey.

Within 18 months, Jaz went from being $25,000 in debt to earning a staggering $185,000 a year. But her role at Mercedes-Benz was not the conventional sales job one might expect. Instead of selling cars, she specialized in upselling – pitching additional features, packages, and add-ons to prospective buyers.

Jaz's primary responsibility was to maintain profits within the business, a task she accomplished by developing an entrepreneurial mindset within her role. She considered her position as a 'business within a business', receiving only leads from the company and taking it upon herself to manage everything else. She designed marketing materials, strategized sales tactics, and mastered the art of sales copy.

The Power of Upselling and Building Relationships

In her five-year stint with Mercedes-Benz, Jaz was responsible for bringing in between six and seven million dollars of profit for the company. The power of upselling, she revealed, cannot be underestimated.

This experience laid a solid foundation for her subsequent online business. Her sales acumen helped her grow her venture quickly, applying the 'don't leave money on the table' approach.

She also underlined the importance of relationship-building in the coaching industry. According to her, it's not merely about enforcing 'pay in full' policies; it's about entering into a relationship with clients, understanding their needs, and finding ways to work together, especially in one-on-one or live programs.

A Client-Centric Approach to Sales and Marketing

In the world of sales and entrepreneurship, Jaz believes in prioritizing the client's needs and circumstances. By engaging in an open conversation, she strives to figure out a plan that works best for each individual. It's not merely about the price or profit; the key is to make the client feel valued and special during the sales process.

Contrary to some popular beliefs, price does matter, even for high earners. Jaz's experiences working with millionaires at Mercedes-Benz taught her that the feeling of getting a deal or receiving special treatment could be the deciding factor in whether or not they make a purchase.

This is an essential consideration for entrepreneurs and businesses. Often, the narrative is centred around energy, brand association, and relationships, downplaying the importance of price. It gives birth to the notion that there's a single type of buyer, which isn't accurate or representative.

The distinction between an 'ideal client' and an 'ideal buyer' needs to be emphasized. Marketing efforts might target the ideal client, but ultimately, it's the buyer who makes the purchase.

Individual experiences and preferences play a crucial role in buying decisions. This is why Jaz advocates for consultation calls, as it allows her to tap into a person's energy and understand their needs better.

This client-centric approach has led to significant accomplishments in her career, including becoming the top salesperson in Australia at just 24. She credits her success to being attentive to customers' needs and selling them what they genuinely require rather than pushing for maximum profit.

Jaz's insights offer a fresh perspective on sales and marketing, highlighting the importance of understanding and respecting the buyer's individuality and needs. Her journey so far is a testament to the impact of a client-centric approach in achieving business success.

An Aligned Sales Strategy and Valuable Sales Lessons

Jaz's approach to sales is anchored in her genuine interest in helping clients rather than pushing for the company's profit. She values building trust and creating a comfortable environment for clients, focusing on their needs rather than pushing for what the company wants her to sell. This is an aligned sales strategy that matches her personality as a Gemini who enjoys connecting with people.

Interestingly, Jaz views her perceived intimidating persona, likely stemming from her Scorpio rising, as an advantage. It adds an element of surprise when clients experience her friendly and communicative nature, making them feel more connected and in tune with her.

In her transition from corporate sales to running her own business, Jaz has observed how these aspects have carried over and continued to be effective. She acknowledges that her journey in music and sales all contributed to building her confidence and skills as an online personal brand. These experiences made her comfortable being in the spotlight and helped her connect with her audience on platforms like Instagram Live.

Reflecting on her journey, Jaz shares three valuable sales lessons that she's learned along the way:

  1. Never judge a book by its cover: You can never make assumptions about someone's purchasing power. Judgments or preconceived notions can hinder the sales process. Instead, establishing a genuine connection with no pre-assumptions is vital. This applies to all communication channels, including direct messages, voice notes, or any other industry-specific interaction mode.

  2. Build Rapport: Building rapport and creating a sense of intimacy is crucial. The familiar 'know, like, and trust sales strategy is essential, but the execution is what truly matters. Leveraging content on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and podcasts can help build relationships that don't feel parasocial to clients.

  3. Have Confidence and Patience: It's crucial to believe in your product or service and be patient enough to wait for the right opportunity. It's okay if someone says 'no'. Trust in your processes, systems, and clients is important, and so is having confidence that a 'no' could potentially lead to a 'yes' in the future.

However, it's also important to ensure your sales approach aligns with who you are. If you're copying someone else's strategy, it might work to a degree, but it may not be sustainable because it doesn't resonate with you. Trusting the process is easier when it's genuinely your process and not a carbon copy of someone else's success.

ASTROLOGY, Authenticity and individuality

Astrology has a unique influence on how we perceive and understand ourselves and, therefore, our authenticity in business. According to our resident expert, Jaz, recent shifts in the astrological plane are promoting a new trend towards authenticity in business.

Astrology is a complex field that involves tracking the movements and positions of celestial bodies. These movements, called transits, determine what we refer to as astrological seasons. For instance, when the sun is in the constellation of Aries, we're in the Aries season. Every planet, including the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and others, transits through different constellations over time.

Presently, there are two significant transits to note. Firstly, Saturn has moved into Pisces, which is contributing to the current astrological climate. More importantly, however, is the movement of Pluto into Aquarius. Pluto stays in a sign for about 15 years, and its transition often corresponds to significant global shifts.

Around 15 years ago, when Pluto moved into Capricorn, we experienced a financial crisis. Now, as Pluto shifts into Aquarius, we're witnessing another economic recession. During its transit through Capricorn, the world saw the rise of large corporations and the tech industry, almost like another industrial revolution, fueling hustle culture and a masculine-dominated business environment.

As we move away from the Capricorn energy, we're shifting towards a new era, one more aligned with Aquarius, signalling a major shift in business attitudes and strategies.

As we resume our conversation about the astrological influences on authenticity in business, we delve into what this shift from Capricorn to Aquarius means for us, particularly for entrepreneurs.

As we move away from the Capricorn influence, we're transitioning into the Aquarius phase. This transition symbolizes a shift from adhering to traditional rules and structures (Capricorn) towards individualism and innovation (Aquarius). Aquarius energy encourages us to break away from conformity and pursue our unique paths.

Aquarius is about authenticity, smashing glass ceilings, progress, futurism, and taking the road less travelled. It encourages us to be true to our vision and ourselves. Astrologically, Aquarius sits on the polarity of authenticity alongside Leo. In other words, if you're not pursuing what ignites your passion and aligns with your personal beliefs, you're potentially missing out on opportunities and could fall behind in the new direction we're heading in.

This goes beyond simple business strategies or daily routines

This goes beyond simple business strategies or daily routines. It's about your mission, your purpose, and the larger contributions you are making. During our mentorship sessions, we've discussed how our individual business missions contribute to broader societal or global movements divorced from personal brand names.

For instance, the mission might be destigmatizing the use of spiritual principles in business, contributing to a larger vision of widespread success and poverty reduction. This isn't tied to a personal name but serves a broader purpose. In this new Aquarius era, we're being encouraged to consider how our individual actions contribute to larger, complex movements rather than only focusing on our personal or business goals.

Pluto, as the planet of transformation, moving into Aquarius signals a period of death and rebirth. This refers to the idea of old ways, strategies, or systems ending and giving rise to new ones – a transformative process that can be both empowering and rejuvenating.

In terms of what death and rebirth could mean for someone in business, it may entail drastic changes in their business practices, strategies, or even the whole vision of their company, allowing for new and innovative ideas to flourish.

The transition into the Aquarius phase could mean different things for different people, as the effects depend on your astrological chart. For some, like those with an Aquarius rising, this transition could impact not only business practices but also personal identity and self-perception.

Recently, the importance of individual identity and authenticity has been at the forefront. Questions like "who am I?" and "what am I doing?" have become more prevalent, signalling this shift towards Aquarian values of individualism and authenticity. The key question becomes, "how do I do things my own way?"

Moving forward, the advice for businesses is not to shy away from a big mission. Businesses should focus on their larger purpose and impact rather than just their personal or corporate success. Sustainability, inclusivity, and wellness have started to become focal points for large corporations, but there's a need to look beyond the superficial layers and genuinely understand the underlying purpose.

It's not enough just to say you support certain causes or initiatives; there needs to be tangible evidence of this support. We're moving into an era where proof and transparency are crucial, and people are looking for the "proof in the pudding."

This extends to how businesses market themselves. It's becoming less inspiring to see income flaunted as a marketing tool without providing any context or added value. For instance, sharing an impressive monthly income figure just as a means to attract coaching clients could come across as tone-deaf. This approach contrasts with providing practical insights into how you achieved a certain financial goal, which could inspire and educate others.

The important takeaway here is that businesses need to ensure they're operating with integrity, providing real value, and backing up their claims with proof. The goal should be to contribute positively to larger societal or global movements rather than focusing solely on personal gains. And as we transition into this new Aquarius era, it's crucial to embrace these shifts and adapt accordingly.

Don’t Forget the Context

While there's a need for transparency and authenticity in how businesses operate and market themselves, there's also a necessity for context and understanding. There seems to be a trend, especially in the online business space, where sharing your income becomes a marketing tool, often without sufficient context. This trend has the potential to disempower and even mislead some people.

Although there is value in destigmatizing wealth and discussing income, especially for women, context is key. Sharing your income without providing insight into your journey, expenses, or how you're using that income can come across as inauthentic or superficial.

For instance, sharing your business's operating costs, investments, or philanthropic efforts along with your income helps provide that much-needed context. Discussing how your life has changed or improved due to your financial success can also add meaning and depth to your story. This gives people a fuller picture of your journey rather than just seeing an impressive income figure.

However, there are potential negative impacts of sharing income figures without context. For some, seeing others' financial success without understanding the journey behind it can lead to feelings of failure or discouragement. This could result in people giving up on their mission or their business, mistakenly believing that they're not achieving their goals quickly enough.

In the end, sharing income figures without context invites comparison, often leading people to feel inferior and thus more inclined to seek guidance or help from the person boasting their earnings. While this may increase business in the short term, it can also result in clients who are in a negative comparative spiral. They might need to overcome this mindset before they can truly benefit from your services and achieve their own success.

Therefore, it's vital to self-reflect and understand why you're choosing to share certain information and how you're going about it. This approach should consider what feels authentic and in line with your values and mission. If sharing income openly feels tone-deaf or inappropriate, consider sharing it in a more private and contextual manner, such as within a community that understands your journey and the broader context of your success.

In summary, as we continue to navigate the evolving landscape of business, it's crucial to strive for authenticity, transparency, and context in all that we do. Celebrating financial success is absolutely okay, but it should be done in a way that inspires, educates, and empowers others rather than leading to disempowerment or unnecessary comparison.

Everyone's path and strategies may not be the same

Continuing the exploration of an authentic and mindful approach to business, it's important to note that everyone's path and strategies may not be the same. An aligned strategy for one person might not work for everyone else, emphasizing the importance of individualized approaches in business. This might involve self-reflection, constant experimentation, or engaging with your audience, depending on what resonates with you and your business ethos.

Understanding the nuances of your business strategy might also involve acknowledging your spiritual energy and traits. Aligning your business practices with your personal energy can help you make more meaningful decisions and set strategies that truly work for you.

The interconnectedness of business and personal development underscores the importance of viewing business as a personal journey. No one's path to success will look exactly the same when it comes to building a business, personal brand, product development, marketing strategy, sales strategies, or even team management. All these aspects are nuanced and have to be fine-tuned to fit the individual or team involved.

As such, it's crucial to avoid the temptation of simply adopting someone else's templates, strategies, or personality because they appear successful. Instead, it's more beneficial to explore ways to understand yourself better, perhaps using spiritual tools or esoteric entrepreneurship, along with other resources like astrology, to create a business that is authentically yours.

This approach, referred to as esoteric entrepreneurship, involves dedication and devotion to doing things your own way, carving your own path, and honouring what your soul came here to do. It's a commitment to seeing your role in the world as significant and understanding that your life has an impact, just like every component of nature.

Interestingly, the concept of 'the laws of success' was mentioned, suggesting they are quite simple and that one key element is persistence, not just patience. Persistence implies continued action and effort, not just a passive waiting for success to occur.

Ultimately, an authentic approach to business involves a blend of practical strategies, spiritual insights, and a deep understanding of oneself. It's about honouring your unique journey and persisting in your endeavours, cultivating a business that is reflective of who you truly are.

THE four fundamental laws of Success: action, attraction, consistency, and proximity.

The first law, action, involves answering the question, "What are you doing?" This includes all your actions related to your business - the products or services you're selling, how you're advancing your business, and other practical aspects.

The second law, attraction, deals with who you are being. It refers to the law of attraction and how you are showing up in the world. It concerns your relationship with yourself, your vibrations, your thoughts, feelings, and limiting beliefs.

Consistency, the third law, concerns how often you're putting these actions and attractors into effect. Persistence is integral to consistency, emphasizing the importance of not giving up and maintaining your devotion to your business objectives.

Finally, the fourth law, proximity, is about the company you keep. It underscores the significance of who's around you, who's influencing your persistence and your business journey. It's also about acknowledging who might be having a negative impact on your persistence and making the necessary changes. Proximity also relates to who we consume content from and the effects of this consumption on our mindset and actions.

These laws, simple as they may seem, are crucial for business success. After establishing these, everything else becomes a matter of personal strategy. The belief is that all strategies can work, but the question is, "Will it work for you?"

This is where spirituality and astrology come into play. They serve as tools for self-inquiry, helping you understand what feels good for you and how you can use your inherent traits to guide your business. Using astrology, for instance, you can explore your astrological chart as a reflection of your soul's potential. This can inform everything from how you sell, market, brand, lead a team, and much more.

It's important to remember that these spiritual tools should be used as touchstones or reference points, not absolute dictates of your actions or decisions. They should assist you when you lose sight of your path but shouldn't enslave you to any dogma. Your unique journey and the fluidity of your strategy should always remain at the forefront.

ASTROLOGY IS NOT DEFINITIVE

Taking the conversation deeper into astrology, it's important to remember that while astrological placements can give us insights into our potential, they are not definitive and do not override personal choices and life experiences. These placements and how they connect to each other are as unique as our DNA. Even twins, though they may have similar astrological charts, will not have the same life experiences, thereby altering the expression of their astrological potentialities. It's also worth noting that our life experiences, much like those in the realm of genetics, can impact the expression of these astrological placements.

Shifting the focus to how astrology can be applied to business, it becomes crucial to examine the individual's unique 'parts of success'. The first step to avoid feeling overwhelmed is to look at what's known as your 'cardinal cross'. This cross consists of four points: your ascendant (or rising sign), your descendant, your Imum Coeli (IC, the lowest point in your chart), and your mid-heaven.

  1. Ascendant/Rising Sign: This is akin to your brand. It's how others perceive you, particularly when they encounter your online presence.

  2. Descendant: This is indicative of how you are in relationships. In the business context, this could mean how you interact with your team and clients once they've entered your space. You could think of this placement as your internal human relations or HR department.

  3. Imum Coeli (IC): This represents your private self and is not visible to the external business world. It signifies how you manage yourself, your inner dialogue, and how you lead yourself when you are off-camera or in planning and creation mode.

  4. Mid-heaven: Often referred to as your fame point, it is the highest point in your chart. This could be thought of as your outer authority, the public perception of you in your industry, like how you would appear on a television interview or a TED talk.

These four points of the cardinal cross can offer valuable insights into how to align your business strategies with your inherent astrological tendencies. This does not mean being confined by these placements but rather using them as guideposts on your business journey. Remember, these are all subject to personal interpretation and individual life experiences.

astrological archetypes to business

It's suggested that you assess your connection with the archetype associated with each point in your cardinal cross and identify any gaps or disconnects. This doesn't imply conformity but rather an awareness of these archetypes in your business realm.

Once this is understood, it is about integrating the energy or characteristics of these signs in their respective areas. In essence, you step into the archetype associated with your Ascendant for branding, Descendant for internal relations, IC for self-management, and Mid-heaven for your industry image.

However, it's emphasized that this should not be a source of stress. Rather than focusing on perfection, it's about continually leaning into these energies and finding areas to double down on, particularly if you are the product or face of your business.

This practice allows for greater alignment and authenticity, both internally and externally. It doesn't promise quick fixes or immediate success, but it offers a roadmap to a business path that is uniquely your own, fostering a sense of true self-alignment.

The analogy of a boat in a stream perfectly illustrates this concept. Rowing against the current, like implementing strategies that aren't inherently yours, can be exhausting. Rowing downstream, however, aligning your business strategies with your inherent astrological tendencies can allow for more ease in your journey.

The ultimate goal is sustainable success. The point isn't to accumulate wealth while sacrificing your mental health or relationships. Real success comes from self-improvement, understanding your values, and acknowledging that growth will bring changes and challenges.

Emphasizing the concept of sustainable success, it is underscored that this doesn't necessarily mean slow growth but growth that takes into account your personal well-being and environment, thus avoiding self-abandonment.

The key takeaway is that there isn't one universally successful path. Each person has to forge their own journey, aligned with their own values and astrological predispositions, to reach their unique version of success. Taking this route might be contrary to the conventional capitalist path we've been taught to follow, but it offers a more sustainable and satisfying trajectory towards success.

LISTEN TO YOU

The discussion concludes with an empowering message to spiritual entrepreneurs. It encourages them to listen to their own instincts rather than outsourcing their decision-making to external gurus. It urges them to recognize that they are, in fact, their own best guides and that the path to success is about following their unique rhythm and pace.

The conversation winds up with an exploration of how listeners can further connect with Speaker 2. She recommends starting with her podcast, where she shares deeper insights and 'wild thoughts'. She also talks about her membership platform, which provides extra education, knowledge, and wisdom, along with insights into the behind-the-scenes of her business.

Those interested in one-on-one work are encouraged to consider the business astrology intensive, which spans over 30 days and includes personalized astrological blueprinting, consultative calls, and follow-up support.

In conclusion, this was a deep dive into the intersection of astrology and entrepreneurship, emphasizing the idea that success in business comes not from rigid adherence to traditional models but from an authentic alignment with your unique astrological predispositions. Following your own rhythm, embracing your unique archetypes, and being mindful of your overall well-being create a sustainable path to success.
